[ Ryuji had been doing so effin' well. People believed that he couldn't hide his secret so well, that he'd blow his cover and would need to hide and run away (again), but Ryuji was determined to prove them all wrong. There was going to be no ifs, ands, or buts here. Ryuji wasn't going to start a vampire panic in Tokyo.

Night school was a good idea. It started off with getting him out of his place and looking normal, with an added bonus of giving him a steady supply of possible food sources. He was always careful: wait for someone by themselves, compel them to pause for just a moment too long in a dark alley, and drink just enough to fill his tank. No need to drink anymore than that. Sure, he had to feed a little more often, but most vampires had evolved to the point that draining a person dry was just old-fashioned and barbaric.

But then everything changed when he met Ren.

He never expected to make a friend, let alone make a friend like Ren. He never seemed to notice how Ryuji was a little too pale, or how he could never hang out before sunset. Or if he did, he never said anything about it. It felt good, hanging out with him. Ryuji was starting to feel like he was really starting to belong. He spent more and more time with him and kind of forgot to feed.

For a while.

He was close to losing it, he could feel the urge rise up inside him. Every passing human looked so good, a body so full of blood. His fangs were starting to poke past his lips and he all but just bit into them to keep control over himself.

No, he can't do that.

But, he looks out of the corner of his eye at Ren. They were just hanging out after class, before Ren had to get back to his home. Maybe he could... If it's Ren, he probably won't drain him dry.

He clears his throat and gets Ren's attention, making sure to look him in the eye as he gets his compel power up and running ]

Say, Ren, why don't we go for a bit of a walk?

[this, honestly, feels totally normal. Ryuji suggesting going for a walk explicitly? A little weird, but nothing that would've ever raised Ren's suspicions. He thinks. Maybe.

But as he approaches, he does notice the pallor in Ryuji's skin. Thinks maybe now is the time he makes a joke about being a night owl, or something. But that joke is lost, buried as he simply says,[

Sure.

[he flashes a grin at Ryuji.]

sure they may be bros, but still it'll be kinda weird to go "yeah let's go to this dark, secluded alley with no cameras" even when his friend is being compelled ]

[smooth, natural. but if he wasn't being compelled, he'd probably idly wonder about wandering. the lack of destination-- and why they suddenly needed to do it. how that pairs with the paleness, the night.

you know. all the hallmark warning signs that he might joke about normally, but that are getting passed over now in favor of just agreeing to whatever Ryuji says.]

[ he's sure that ren would probably make some sort of throwaway comment about being a vampire, entirely in jest, but ryuji isn't too sure how'd he'd react right now.

but there's no time to think. gotta get this done and then... figure out how to cover up what he did to his best friend.

his mind is running a mile a minute as he walks. he keeps the chatter up, slightly more than normal. his eyes are peeled and soon enough, he finds a dark and secluded alley. he leads them into it. nothing wrong with two dudes going into a dark and secluded alley, right? ]

Oh man, it's kinda creepy in here, don't you think?

[shrugsitoff]

Same here. [ he lets out a sigh ] Not much we can do about that now.

[ there's another long pause here before he speaks up ]

Do you want to stay sitting here for a while?

[ read: do you need to? ]

[ there is a small shrug at the question ]

Whatever you'd like to do. I'm fine, either way...

[ no, he isn't actually okay and probably should sit here with him for a while, but it's okay. he's probably unstable on his feet still ]

[ takes a hard look at him before slightly nudging him with his shoulder ]

Let's stay sitting down then.

[ he can tell when someone still needs to be sitting down ]

[ he's a little surprised by the shoulder nudge, but he doesn't say anything about it, for the time being. instead, he just nods softly. ]

Do you think anyone else is here...?

[shrugsitoff]

Don't know.

[ he hums ]

I was at home. How about you?

Same... I was waiting for Haru to come over.

[ hopefully the stove wasn't on, or that someone was able to turn it off, 'cause he has no idea how any of this works ]

[ he hums at that, nodding once ]

Hopefully Haru didn't end up here too.

I hope so. I don't even want you to be here.

[ not that he wants to be here alone, but... ]

But at least you're not alone, Makoto.

[ nudges him again, giving him a small smile and trying to get him to smile ]

[ but he gives a weak smile in return to the nudge ]

[ nudges him back ]

I'm not going to abandon you here.

I... didn't mean it like that. [ frowns a little ]

I just mean that I'm not sure if I should be happy about that.

[ hums in understanding ]
